Hi and welcome to the WPC. Lenses are the key factor in equipment as they filter the light to different degrees. Our advice is always spend as much as you can afford on lenses as they improve quality and glass etc as they go up in price. If you're shooting birds then get as good a zoom as possible with a fixed aperture through all of the zoom lengths. They do cost a bit when they're fixed though. Hope that helps.
